Chilli Crab Here We Come !

There still crab around Mandurah with our trip on sat ending with 15 female crabs just nice to make chilli crab for dinner. This year the size of the average crab is getting smaller compare to a few year we could get some nice big crabs but now they just hitting legal or just over.



After dropping the girls home (the ones who came crabbing) I meet up with Shane, Ron and some of our friends to do some fishing. The first cast I had hooked onto a nice small bream which put a good fight but soon we were plagued with Gobble Guts and Trumpeters. Shane was able to hook onto the smallest tailor we have ever seen and our friend Siong was able to land his first fish.... a Trumpeter but a big one at that.

Swan Fish 2010

Sorry for the late report but finally got time to post it up here.

Swan fish 2010 was to be our first comp even for the team with our star line up of Shane, Ron and myself with special guest of mark who was a pro bream fisher before and won 2004 bream comp I think it was.

Anyway the day start early at 9 am which some of don’t usually wake up haha but I was surprised to have the whole team ready at my house waiting on the dot (as I was cooking pancakes for breakfast)

Our plan was to head to Point Walter for some big flatties then to Guildford then Claremont to camp for the night but plans never go to plan haha.

Well we did end up starting at Point Walter but all there was, were blowies and schools of mullets.




Next was Applecross jetty which was pretty quiet also before we had our lunch break and this is where we kind of got side tracked haha. Just nearby Applecross jetty is a small cafe called Next Cafe which had some great food and good price too but the best thing was the coffee we ended up almost trying all their coffees and DAM ! they were dam nice !. The long glass one which was called snowing Alps I think really looks cool and taste freaking awesome.




Just as we finish our little side adventure the pressure started to fall which and wasn’t looking to great with winds picking up too but we pushed on with no fish in our score board yet.

Next was canning bridge but ended to be packed with people so we moved to just outside the bridge with also no luck. At this time mark had to leave us for a bday dinner.

Then it just got even more horrible later we ended up camping at Claremont jetty for the rest of the night and it was just horrible. Windy choppy and worst was the water was murky we could spot any of the flathead that usually stay around the light post. We ended called it a night and said we try next year as this year wasn’t ours.

Anyway we had fun to bad we didn’t get any fish but we are ready for next year at least.

Sting Me !

Hello all,

Tonight well last night ... we decided to take Master Shane out fishing for his last time for awhile as he be going into surgery on Wednesday.

The plan was to head out around 6:30pm to woodman's point jetty and throw out our big rods and also try some ballooning and finish around 11pm so Master Ron could study (don’t you love summer school).

Getting to woodman's point we were amazed at how many people were there on a Monday I mean it was PACKED ... fishing and crabbing which was not good for us but there was a small area at the end which we could of fished but the final straw was the sea lion hanging around.... so we head off to north mole which has been a fav spot for us. We baited up our big rods and casted them out with no time to waste.

1 hour later my rod went off and we were on ... maybe 5 or 10 mins later I landed myself a nice stingray which we had to keep due to damage done when we gaffed it so BBQ sting ray tomorrow ;)

30 mins later Master Shane’s rod went off also which ran for about 30 secs before losing it.... when we retrieved the rig we figured out a shark had bitten through the leader so we quickly swap them for some metal traces in hope to catch us a nice shark too.

Time passed by and it was nearly time to pack up then Master Ron had a run but he didn’t have a metal trace and was bitten off.

We waited a bit longer in hope of it to come back but time was up and we called it a night.

It was a great night for all of us even Fuji our mascot had his fun too but it's sad that it would be Master Shane’s last go for awhile until his knee is well enough.

Lizards !!!

Hello all,

Last night Shane & I headed out to try some fishing at our usual spot at Claremont jetty.
We targeting mulloways, yellow fin whiting and flatheads but first thing first we need was catch some live bait as we only had a few prawns for bait.

Shane didn’t get much lucky catch anything to use as live bait so he switch to soft plastics to target flatheads awhile I tried to catch us some bait. Soon after I was able to get a small trumpeter for Shane’s live bait rod but Shane also had hooked up on something, a nice 38cm fat flathead weighing at 1kg. I decided to try some SP on the black diamond and catch myself a nice flathead too but it was much thinner than Shane’s. There were few more flathead caught but they were all undersized and put back into the water for another day.

We did try to catch some whiting after but it seem our bait just getting chomped by gobble guts so gave up and called it a night.

Mussels for Muscles ?

Today Ron and I decided to try some bream action after watching Steve catching a 47cm bream in The Swan River using mussels.

We arrived at our spot at low tide so we could collect some mussels off the jetty and fished for around 3 hours.
30 min into it I got a hit which I nearly lost as I was play around with the schools of river prawns hanging around the jetty. This would be my newest PB for black bream hitting at 30 cm mark.

Everything went dead after so we called it a day but that mussel does the charm for big bream just hope we can get those 40cm+ soon.
